Abstract

Wound injury is the disturbance of the anatomical, cellular and functional integrity of the tissue. Wound occurs due to chemical, physical, microbial, thermal and immunological infections to the tissue. Wound healing begins shortly after an injury and continues depending on the intensity of injury. Infected wound prolongs wound healing phase. Infection with MRSA is one of the most common complications encountered in wound healing. Emergence of antimicrobial resistance is a serious challenge encountered in the area of infected wound management. This warrants the need for the development of alternative novel methods to be used in this area. Ethnopharmacology offers a wide variety of bioactive agents that have potential MRSA infected wound healing activity. The objective of this review is to identify plants with potential wound healing and anti- MRSA activity and also to find a solution to the issue of emerging antibiotic resistance.
