Abstract

Introduction: Adenovirus has a very wide disease pattern. It causes significant complications especially in the neonatal period and immune compromised patients

Objective: Adenovirus has a wide spectrum of disease patterns. It causes major complications, especially in neonatal and immunocompromised patients. The importance of the virus increases day by day due to its role in obesity and oncogenic. There is no specific treatment. In terms of prevention of diseases caused by adenovirus; vaccination program is considered to be taken. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of adenovirus in Yozgat province.

Methods: It was studied on 1000 children patient (0-17 years) admitted to the child department of Bozok University Research and Application Hospital in Yozgat Province in the year of 2016 and 2017. Serum samples taken from patients with any complaint admitted to our outpatient clinic were centrifuged and stored at -20 degrees. Adenovirus Ig G and adenovirus Ig M levels were investigated by ELISA method.

Results: Adenovirus Ig G in 1000 children was found 32.3% were negative and 67.7% were positive. Adenovirus Ig M resulted in 23% negative and 77% positive. There was no difference in adenovirus in comparison to sex. There was no significant difference between age groups. However, adenovirus incidence is more frequent in children between 3-5 years of age. There was no significant relationship between obesity and adenovirus. The relationship between cough, conjunctivitis, diarrhoea and adenovirus was examined and no significant correlation was found.

Conclusion: Adenovirus frequency is quite frequent in society. Our study shows that adenovirus prevalence is higher in parallel with other literature information. Based on the frequency of this occurrence; it is a study to guide treatment and immunization.
