Urginea is a very critical and uncommon medicinal plant positioned growing in India, Africa and Mediterranean regions. Because of its medicinal properties the bulb of Urginea has found its place in British and European pharmacopeia. In the present study, the present genome size variation within the DNA content material amongst six accessions of Urginea species, gathered from Gulbarga of Karnataka, India and has been assessed with the use of flow cytometry. Flow cytometry analysis of Propidium Iodide (PI) stained nuclei isolated from roots of U. wightii have been used to estimate its genome size variations among six accessions of Urginea, using Allium cepa as reference standard with 2C value of 33.5 pg of DNA. The known genome size of U. wightii collectively with other genomic data could be applied in advancing biochemical and evolutionary research of the genus Urginea.
