Abstract

This paper investigates how narrative academic discourse continues to come forward as a significant element of scholarship. It investigates the multiple elements that enable narrativity in scholarship to become less constrained by Enlightenment values and linear thinking. It discusses how this enables scholars to benefit from creative or industry experience and practice and to enter into a critical contribution to and analysis of the scholarly discussions. By investigating some elements of narrativity and also practice led research (PLR), this paper brings to the academy a renewed look at how hermeneutic phenomenology can add to the privileged academic discussion that leads to, expresses and expounds critical and cultural theoretical discourse. Practice based/led research (PB/LR) brings to the academy knowledge and/as creativity; in doing so it enriches scholarship and creates new fields of scholarly endeavour that are apposite in this 21st century.
