Managerial competencies are used by administrators in both public and private universities to formulate and implement policies that will enhance effectiveness and efficiency. Questions were been raise by various stakeholders on the effectiveness of administrators. This study examined the management competencies deployed by universities administrators and compared the management competencies deployed by administrators in the study area. Descriptive survey research design was used in this study. The population comprised 2,402 staff which includes the Deans/Provost, Heads of Departments/Directors and Administrative Officers in selected Government and Private Universities, namely; Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State University, Fountain University and Oduduwa University. The sample for the study was made up of 364 officers; 19 Deans, 53 Heads of Departments and 292 Administrative Officers. One self-designed research instrument was used to collect data and was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study concluded that all the identified managerial competencies are deployed and that there is no significant difference between the managerial competencies deployed by administrators in the study area. The study recommended that the management of the selected Universities must contribute positively to emotional intelligence competency through being sensitive and supportive of staff work schedule and welfare.
