Abstract

Now-a-days, product development skills in engineering students can be enhanced by using Project-based Learning (PBL) in curriculum. PBL is a technique which motivates students to study the concepts in detail which may or may not be given in curriculum. The main goal of this research article is to use PBL in curriculum for application of product development skills. This research article include case study carried out for 5th semester students of Mechanical Engineering Department, ViMEET affiliated to University of Mumbai (India). Students were explained about PBL and components of product development skills. They functioned in groups. Student feedback questionnaires were prepared to collect data. Assessment of questionnaire were carried out on 5 point scale. Total 54 students have experienced Course Level Project-based Learning (CLPBL) for Mechanical Measurement and Control subject of 5th semester. Out of 54 students 52 students agreed that there should be extension of PBL in next semester courses. 39 students were pleased and inspired with PBL, whereas 41 students felt that they would be able to use product development skills in the near future. This research article concludes that PBL needs considerable understanding of technical subjects, team work and determination on the part of the students. Implementer of CLPBL plays an important role in guiding students from idea generation to project completion.
